Accompanied by Rolex Guarantee dated 27 February 1962 made out by Geneva Watch Co., Kowloon, Hong Kong, Bureaux Suisse de Contrôle Officiel de la Marche des Chronomètres Watch Rate Certificate No. 14538 dated 29 November 1961, two original tags, original seal, Rolex Oyster Perpetual Explorer card and original fitted presentation box.
The watch was purchased by the uncle of the present owner in Hong Kong in 1962. He was serving as Sergeant Mayor in the British Army, stationed in Hong Kong, and bought the watch as a farewell gift to himself.
Practically unworn, the watch stands out by its fantastic, unspoiled original overall condition, still retaining the green protective sticker to the back, the original bracelet, documents, tags and box and its private provenance. It is furthermore possibly the best preserved example of an Explorer I reference 1016 to come to the market in decades.
