John Fullerton of Carberry Tower, was the brother of William Fullerton of Carstairs, whose daughter, Elizabeth Fullerton (1758-1849), married William Fullerton-Elphinstone (1740-1834), second son of Charles, 10th Lord Elphinstone, in 1774. Their grandson was William, 15th Lord Elphinstone (1828-1893).
Carberry Tower, a 16th Century tower house, famous as a landmark for the surrender of Mary Queen of Scots to the Protestant Lords in 1567, is located south of Musselburgh, near Edinburgh, and was the family seat of the Fullertons in the 18th Century, passing to the Elphinstones through marriage.
