Reza Derakhshani (Iranian, b. 1952)

Inspired by the long, complex history of the region, Derakhshani evokes on canvas the immense and mystical world of Persian poetry and music. His paintings have been described as visual music; colour, sound and poetry having transmuted into shadow and light. In his search for the Sublime, his paintings are haunting and with a powerful meditative quality.
