Designed as a carved ivory ink well depicting a Bacchic face and other mythological figures, within scrolling ivory and multicolored enamel foliate motifs and trim, opening to reveal a glass ink compartment, with a sculpted gold female sphinx handle and a gold base of cherubs and Bacchic faces, mounted in 18k gold, circa 1880, 4¼ x 3 x 3 ins., with French assay mark, in a red leather fitted case
