The hood with dentil moulded swan neck pediment, foliate blind fret panelling and outset fluted columns with brass Corinthian capitals, the moulded arched trunkdoor flanked by fluted canted angles and with blind frets and and dentil mouldings above, on a rectangular plinth with bracket feet, the backboard inscribed 8105/107, the 30.5 cm. (12 inch) brass dial with foliate C-scroll spandrels, silvered chapter ring and centre with engraved seconds ring and signature R.LEAR PINHEY/PLYMo. DOCK. above date aperture, blued steel hour hand (minute hand lacking), painted rolling moon above and inscribed HIGH WATER AT PLYMo. DOCK, the later eight day four pillar movement with anchor escapement and rack strike on bell
