Specialist note

Aizen Myo-o is the principal deity of the group of Myo-o or 'Kings of Light', derived from the circle of Siva, the Hindu deity of destruction and reproduction. Aizen Myo-o is depicted with a fierce countenance bordered by flames on either side of his head. In Buddhism he is worshipped principally by the Tendai and Shingon sects which consider Aizen Myo-o a fierce manifestation of the mild deity Kongo-satta in which guise he is known as the God of Love.
