a full evening wrap of polychrome woven silk, with a gilt metal thread spot motif woven through and lined in satsuma-orange silk with a devoré velvet floral design

Specialist note

In the Oriental style so popular in the mid-1920s, this example is both luxurious and exotic, key themes of fashionable society in Paris in this period. The elegant dropped neck is probably indicative of the influence of kimono, along with the padded hemline.
