Specialist note

This bas-relief pastoral tablet, likely to have been sculpted to hang above a door, celebrates lyric poetry and the Season of Autumn, and is conceived in the late l8th Century French/antique manner. The playing youths of antiquity, with thyrsus, pipe and poetic laurel-garland celebrate the vintage feast of Bacchus, and dance at an altar displaying the wine-deity's vine-festooned bust.
