THREE BACTRIAN MARBLE CYLINDERS
2ND MILLENNIUM B.C.
One of red marble with cream inclusions, encircled by a shallow groove; and two others similar, in mottled cream stone and green stone with white veining and black inclusions, both with grooves on top and bottom surfaces
11¼ in. (28.5 cm.); 9 3/8 in. (23.8 cm.); and 8 1/8 in. (20.6 cm.) high respectively (3)

With Jean-Claude Ciancimino prior to 1999.

Specialist note

It has been suggested that these columns had a ritual significance which has led to them being described as idols. The encircling groove may however support a more quotidian use, a suggestion is that they could have been used as weights.
