Specialist note

Count Mikhail Andreyevich Miloradovich was a Russian general during the Napoleonic Wars. Appointed military governor of St Petersburg in 1818, it is possible that this design for a barge and a barge house may have been intended for his palace there. However, any building plans would have been cut short when he was shot dead by Decembrists in 1825.
