Note du spécialiste

This richly decorated scagliola table top, with dense scrolling foliage framing a central panel of putti and flowers, all executed en grisaille, is typical of the work of scagliolisti from the Carpi region. A closely related table top in the Bianchi Collection, Florence, is illustrated in A.M. Massinelli, Scagliola, L'Arte della Pietra Dura di Luna, Rome, 1997, p. 122, figs. 81 a-b, while a pair of table tops in the Museo Civico, Carpi, dated 1666 and with similar borders of scrolling foliage, are illustrated in D.Colli et al.,La Scagliola Carpigiana e L'Illusione Barocca, Modena, 1990, p. 146.
