Tasting note: A lovely magnum in 1990; good future. Two years later, at the annual Champagne Academy dinner: powerful, coped well with strong cheese. Finding it lightweight alongside the '81 in 1994. Richly flavoured bottles preceding Kaplan's 33 '82s claret dinner in April 1997. The following month, with the Bacchus Society at Krug: now golden; nose deep, rich and smoky, settling down to a soft creaminess; fairly sweet, fully flavoured. The sort of wine that glories in a good dose of bottle age. Most recently, an intriguing bottle opening a wine dinner at home: medium-pale straw gold with continuous spray of fine bubbles; bouquet of bitter walnuts; medium-dry, strongly scented old straw flavour. very distinctive, attractive.
