MARKED WITH PSEUDOMARKS, PROBABLY HANAU, LATE 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY
The bowl baluster spool-shaped and on pedestal foot with knopped stem with scrolling buttresses, the detachable cover with finial cast as a knight in armour, overall cast and chased with foliage scrolls, fruit and strapwork, the bowl with landscape cartouches, the rim engraved with an inscription, marked on foot, at rim and on cover
22½ in. (57 cm.) high
46 oz. (1,435 gr.)
The inscription reads 'Ex Dono The United Arts Rifles Lodge, 3817, to their First Master Rt Wor. Bro. Lt Gen. Sir Francis Lloyd, G.C.V.O., K.G.B., D.S.O., Past Grand Warden. 1917-1919'

Presented to Lieutenant General Sir Francis Lloyd (1853-1926).

Sir Francis Lloyd was colonel of the Royal Welch Fusiliers from 1915 to 1926. In 1915, as Major General of the Household Division, he was tasked by King George V to found a regiment of foot guards recruited from Wales, this became the Welsh Guards
