Lot 164 A l'Exposition Universelle de Paris de 1889, furent présentées des orchidées et des fleurs en émail, qui mariaient pour la première fois les pierres avec un réalisme étonnant. Elles firent sensation et se démarquèrent des bijoux de la décennie précédente marqués par l'historicisme.
Ces fleurs furent si populaires que Tiffany en créa de nouvelles pour leurs boutiques de New York et de Paris. Elles figurèrent à leur catalogue jusqu'en en 1896. Le lot 164 en est un bel exemple.
The Paris Exposition Universelle of 1889 exhibited a series of specially created enamelled orchids and flowers, which combined gemstones with a botanical realism not previously achieved. They were a sensation and marked a move against the conservative jewellery designs of the previous decade strongly influenced by periods such as the Renaissance.
So popular were these designs that Tiffany created more flowers to be sold in their New York and Paris stores. They appeared in their sale catalogues until 1896. Lot 164 is an example of one of these flowers.
