each painted in the Sèvres style with scattered loose bouquets comprising eleven soup plates, fifty-eight dinner plates, nineteen dessert plates, three shell-shape dishes, two lozenge-shape dishes, four scalloped shallow circular dishes, two sauce-tureens and covers, 7 four half-bottle coolers

Specialist note

See John Twitchett, Derby Porcelain, London, 1980, p. 172, fig. 203 for a pair of ice-pails, covers and liners in the collection of the Leeds City Art Galleries painted in the same pattern and similarly marked. Given the marks and the similarity in painting, the flowers attributed to William Billingsley, it is not impossible for these ice-pails to have originally been part of the same dessert service as the present lot.
