The curved tablet toprail above a shaped horizontal splat, the armchairs with scrolled arms, above a caned seat and padded squab cushion covered in cream and pale blue watered silk, on reeded sabre legs, eleven chairs stamped 'H. LUCAS'
The armchairs: 34¼ in. (87 cm.) high; 21½ in. (55 cm.) wide; 22 in. (56 cm.) deep
The side chairs: 33¼ in. (84.5 cm.) high; 18½ in. (47 cm.) wide; 21½ in. (54.5 cm.) deep (12)

Specialist note

Henry Lucas was active at 33 Newman Street, Oxford Street 1820-25 and in 1835 at 7 Charles Street, Hampstead Road. Since the time of the 1994 Sotheby's catalogue, a further set of chairs stamped 'H. Lucas' have been identified. This set of eight rosewood dining-chairs was sold anonymously, Christie's, London, 26 September 1996, lot 142. The latter chairs also feature a similar horizontal splat, flanked by acanthus scrolls.
