The rectangular top with three-quarter gallery pierced with carrying-handles, above a frieze drawer and a pair of panelled doors, with a further drawer simulated at two drawers, on square tapering legs, the handles original, the lower drawer adapted from a commode drawer

Specialist note

The shaped panels of this bedside cupboard are designed in the French rococo or 'Modern' style popularised by such publications as Thomas Chippendale's The Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director, 1754 and Ince and Mayhew's Universal System of Household Furniture, 1762. The door panels relate to a pair sold anonymously, Christie's, London, 27 November 2003, lot 33 (£16,730).
