Specialist note

The composition of this lot is very similar to that of Pieter Pietersz.'s portrait of Dirckje Tijmansdr. van der Graft in a private collection, Doorn. The modelling of the face, however, is softer and more subtle in the present portrait and recalls that of the anonymous sitter, on panel, formerly attributed to Cornelis Ketel by C. Hofstede de Groot in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Rouen.
