Specialist note

The Roman Ruins at Virginia Water were taken from their original location in the ancient Roman city of Leptis Magna, close to the present city of Tripoli in Libya, in 1816. The ruins were originally housed in the British Museum before being transported and erected at the current site in 1826. The arrangement of the ruins was carried out under the direction of the Royal Architect Sir Jeffry Wyatville (1766-1840).
