Ulysse Nardin's Trilogy of Time not only celebrates a fundamental change in man's understanding of the universe but also the fine art of complicated watch making. During the 16th Century three great astronomers challenged the current thinking of the day, by arguing that the earth was not the center of the universe (Ptolemaic system). The Polish Astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus (1473-1543) provided a mathematical model in support of the heliocentric theory in which the sun was the center of the universe. The Italian Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) supported Copernicus's theory based on empirical evidence he obtained with an improved telescope. He discovered the phases of Venus and moons orbiting Jupiter. Finally, Johannes Kepler formulated laws of planetary motion based on findings of elliptical orbits and varying planet speeds.
The Astrolabium wristwatch was introduced in 1985. It indicates the position of the sun, moon and stars as well as indicating sunrise, sunset, dawn, dusk, moon phases, moon rise, moon set, and eclipses of the sun and the moon.
The Planetarium wristwatch was introduced in 1988. It indicates the astronomical positions of the five main planets in relation to the sun and earth.
The Tellurium wristwatch was introduced in 1992. It indicates a rotating earth as seen from the North Pole with the division between night and day between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, sun rise and sunset, moon phases and eclipses.
