A LOUIS XVI STYLE ORMOLU, PATINATED BRONZE, BLUED METAL AND CARRARA MARBLE PENDULE 'A CERCLE TOURNANT'
BY HENRY DASSON, PARIS, LAST QUARTER 19TH CENTURY
Surmounted by a torch-bearing putto sat upon swirling clouds over the globe clockcase, set with a Roman hour and an Arabic minute band, supported below by three floral-garlanded naked nymphs emblematic of the Three Graces, on a tripartite base cast with anthemia and scrolling foliage, on toupie feet; the loop of one garland signed Henry Dasson
28 7/8 in. (73.3 cm.) high

Note du spécialiste

This clock is a later variation of the model attributed to François Vion which depicts the Three Graces, possibly after Falconet, entwined with each other in support of the orbit movement. There is an example from the Isaac de Camondo collection on display in the Louvre. A nearly identical model to the present lot, undated but thought to be late 18th century and showing the Three Graces with arms outstretched, is illustrated in Tardy, La Pendule Française, Paris, 1981, vol. III, p. 291.
