Specialist note

A copy after the central group of figures in a drawing by Negretti in the Academy of St. Luke's, Rome (see L. Grassi, Il Libro dei Disegni di Jacopo Palma il Giovane all'Academia di S. Luca, Rome, 1968, pl. 3). Grassi considers the figure on the right on the S. Luca drawing to be a portrait of the artist's wife, Andriana or Adriana, who died in 1605.
