Specialist note

Anna Maria Draycott was the only heir of Mr Draycote, Sunbury, Middlesex. On 3 April 1764 she married George, 2nd Earl of Pomfret (1722-1785). This picture dates to circa 1763. Reynolds painted the sitter on two further occasions, both full-length and now in private collections (see Mannings, op. cit., p. 186, nos. 601-2).
