Specialist note

This lot includes fourteen drawings (of which three with a blank reserved area for text), four cover projects, two pages with lettrines or chapter headers, a hand-written list of illustrations planned, a page with part of the text in calligraphy, and two letters from artist to the publisher and a letter from the publisher to the artist; and loose within a slipcase designed by J.-L. Tellier.

In 1946 Mrs Richard-Sauvenier from La Licorne Edition in Brussels, commissioned Delvaux to illustrate Charles Nodier's novel Iñes de las Sierras, circa 1841, which tells the dramatic life of the beautiful Iñes. The present lot comprises the original drawings and projects for the book lithographic illustrations. For unknow reasons, the book was never published.
