The present work is sold with a letter from the artist to Michael Allen, who bought the painting in 1973. He writes of the work, 'It is a picture of a small house "attached" to a farm which belonged or was rented by Edward Le Bas ... [it] was bought I think for about £30 by Gerald Kelly'.
