Specialist note

Dated by Pierre Rosenberg and Louis-Antoine Prat to circa 1715. The figure appears in a Pastoral Landscape by Jacopo Bassano now in the Thyssen Collection and in The Flood attributed to Gerolamo Bassano, a version of which, now in the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Nancy, was in the French Royal Collection by 1683.
