Specialist note

Fanny Guillon-Laffaille will include this work in the forthcoming supplement to her Raoul Dufy catalogue raisonné.

These two works by Dufy were originally painted directly on the walls of a gallery owned by a friend of the artist. The gallery was located on rue de la Boétie in Paris, a notable address in the city where artists, such as Picasso, both met and occupied studios.
In 2012, the paintings were rediscovered in the space which had since become an office, and were carefully removed from the walls and sensitively restored and laid down on canvas by M. Depretez in collaboration with colleagues from institutions with experience working with historical monuments.
