Specialist note
Messrs Crace and Sons, decorators to the Prince of Wales, later George IV, supplied similar 'Jacobethan' furniture to Knebworth House, Hertfordshire. The novelist Sir Edward Bulwer-Lytton, 1st Baron Lytton (d.1873) remodelled the house in 1843 and employed John Crace to decorate the interior. Much of Crace's decoration was swept away in Edwardian times by Sir Edwin Lutyens, but his magnificent State Drawing Room survives.
