TWO GEORGE III SILVER TEA CADDIES
MARK OF WILLIAM VINCENT, LONDON, 1770
Shaped square, the sides chased with flowering branches and incorporating an engraved coat-of-arms at front in a navette cartouche, the pull-off covers with rose finials
5 1/8 in. (13.2 cm.) high; 3¼ in. (8.4 cm.) square
21.25 oz. (659 gr.)
The arms are those of Ingoldsby of Lincolnshire with the later addition of the probably unrelated coronet and crest for Palmer, Baron Selborne. Sir Roundell Palmer, QC MP (1812-1895), was created a baron on his appointment as Lord Chancellor of England in 1872. He was elevated to an earldom in 1883. (2)
