專家說明

A pupil of Rembrandt in the 1640s, Furnerius, brother-in-law of Philips Koninck, specialized in landscape. Virtually no pictures by him are known and his oeuvre is mostly documented through his drawings.
Some of his works show broad, rather coarse pen lines and the use of dark wash, but he also produced drawings in a more delicate and precise manner like the present sheet (see W. Sumowski, Drawings of the Rembrandt School, IV, New York, 1981, nos. 990-1, 1014, 1016, 1018, and 1029).
We thank Professor Werner Sumowski and Peter Schatborn for their help in cataloguing this drawing.
