In addition to this drawing, Castillo treated Saint John in a composition of which two autograph, smaller versions exist, both in Madrid (Museo del la Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, inv. D/2149; Biblioteca Nacional, inv. Barcia 298/ Dib/ 13/2/62; see Navarrete Prieto and García de la Torre, op. cit., nos. 81, 82, ill.). The sheet offered here has been dated to the 1650s.
