A SET OF TWENTY-THREE VICTORIAN SILVER-PLATED DINNER-PLATES
RETAILED BY GARRARD, PANTON STREET, LONDON, BEFORE 1868
Each circular with gadrooned rim, engraved with a coat-of-arms below a marquess' coronet
9 5/8 in. (24.5 cm.) diameter
The arms are those of Hamilton, presumably for James Hamilton, 2nd Marquess and later 1st Duke of Abercorn. (23)

The plates perhaps entered the collection at Althorp through the marriage of Albert Edward John Spencer, Viscount Althorp and later 7th Earl Spencer (1892-1975) to Lady Cynthia Hamilton, second daughter of the 3rd Duke of Abercorn in 1919.
