This model of bowl was first shown at the New York World's Fair of 1939, as part of Tiffany’s display of Art Deco in the House of Jewels. The design is attributed to Tiffany’s Norwegian designer Olaf Wilford (1894-1980) who introduced it as a pattern for flatware serving pieces in 1937. The model was a popular success and remained in production until the early 1950s. Examples of this salad bowl and the matching salad servers are in the collection of The Dallas Museum of Art, and are illustrated in Jewel Stern, Modernism in American Silver, New Haven, 2005, p. 177. Examples of this bowl and the salad servers have been sold at Christie's, New York, 20-21 January 2022, lot 253, and London, 29 January 2020, lot 20.
