KEULEN, Johannes van (1654-1715) and Gerard van KEULEN (1678-1726). 9 charts from the Zee-Fakkel, Part II, showing the coasts of Ireland, Scotland, English Channel and the Bay of Biscay. Amsterdam: [c.1695-1704].
Superbly coloured sea charts, executed by a contemporary hand in a painterly fashion, and heightened in gold. Together, these 9 maps form a cohesive assembly of charts of the western Atlantic coasts. The presence of some later variants of these charts is suggestive of a date between 1695 and 1704: see Koeman IV, Keu 64, who attributes these to Gerard van Keulen, despite Johannes' name appearing on the title). Koeman chart numbers 16, 17*, 72*, 74, 76*, 77, 78*, 79 and 80.
Engraved double-page maps, all coloured by a contemporary hand and heightened in gold, with decorative title and scale cartouches, compass roses and ships. The maps as follows: 1.
