Man Ray (1890-1976)

The stamp on the verso of this photograph has been identified as M28 in Steven Manford’s book, Behind the photo: the stamps of Man Ray (2009). According to Manford, this is a posthumously manufactured stamp “a perfectly fine twenties print, a posthumous print, or contact print, for example, may have such a stamp” (p. 42).



Tylia Perlmutter s'installe à Paris en 1922 et fait venir sa soeur Bronia, amante de Raymond Radiguet et future épouse de René Clair. Les deux soeurs fréquentent nombre d'artistes dans les années 1920, posent pour Marie Laurencin, Kisling, Foujita, Pascin, Man Ray et bien d'autres. Tylia Perlmutter est notamment connue pour avoir traduit en français Le journal d'Anne Frank (1950) sous le pseudonyme de Tylia Caren, en collaboration avec Suzanne Lombard.

Tylia Perlmutter settled in Paris in 1922 and later bringing her sister Bronia, the lover of Raymond Radiguet and future wife of René Clair. The two sisters socialized with many artists in the 1920s, posing for Marie Laurencin, Kisling, Foujita, Pascin, Man Ray, and many others. Tylia Perlmutter is particularly known for translating The Diary of Anne Frank (1950) into French under the pseudonym Tylia Caren, in collaboration with Suzanne Lombard.
