Specialist note

Kändler modeled the 'Prudent wife' circa 1757-58 and was inspired by the engraving L'oeconome after a painting by Jean-Siméon Chardin (1699-1779). An identical model is illustrated and discussed in A. Gräfin von Wallwitz, Celebrating Käendler, Munich, 2006, cat. 28.
