Specialist note

This work is sold with a photo-certificate from Professor Dr Manfred Reuther of the Nolde Stiftung, Seebüll.

This portrait may depict the daughter of Max Sauerlandt, who was a close friend and patron of Emil Nolde and published the first monograph on the artist in 1921. He became director of the Hamburger Kunsthalle and was responsible for the acquisition of many of the major Expressionist works in the museum's collection.
