In the 1930s, Jean Dupas enjoyed a fruitful collaboration with the London Underground and notably its design director Frank Pick, for whom he created five poster designs. These promoted the charms of London life, and specifically the leisure destinations that the Underground brought into easy reach. The present image shows elegant, sporty young figures on the banks of the Thames; other designs referenced the regattas at Richmond and game of polo - all in a delicate palette of pale pinks, greens and blues, and greys that evoke a fresh and youthful world of delicate sophistication.
