Neri di Bicci (Florence 1419-1492)
The Madonna and Child
gold ground panel, arched top, in an engaged frame, with a later base
33 5/8 x 24 in. (85.4 x 61 cm.)

G. Locker-Lampson.
Mrs. Ralph Merton, thence by descent to the present owners.

Note du spécialiste

The panel implies a knowledge on Neri di Bicci's part both of pictures by such artists as Fra Filippo Lippi and of half-length Madonna reliefs by contemporary sculptors. A date in the mid-1460s seems likely.
