Late 19th/20th century, impressed monogram and sceptre mark, H and W, incised 18½ - 15½, signed H. Keisel
Finely painted after Heinrich Hoffmann, with a youthful Christ standing in the Temple discussing the scriptures with five robed Elders
14¼ x 19¼ in. (36.2 x 48.8 cm.), within a carved giltwood frame

Specialist note

Depicting Christ, at the age of twelve, in The Temple at Jerusalem surrounded by several doctors or Rabbis, the scene is also referred to as the 'Dispute in The Temple' or 'Christ among the Doctors.' Cf. Christie's, New York, 23 April 2004, lot 258.
