The rounded rectangular padded back and seat covered in green and red striped fabric, on moulded square legs carved with foliage joined by stretchers

Supplied to Edward Leigh (1742-1786), 5th Baron Leigh of Stoneleigh, Stoneleigh Abbey, Kenilworth, Warwickshire and by descent at Stoneleigh

Specialist note

The top part of the legs of this bergere have identical carving to those of the Pembroke table (lot 611), and must have formed part of the same suite. The Pembroke table was probably that supplied by William Gomm on 24 June 1764 and invoiced as '4 28 Inch Pembroke Tables with Boards for the Roms No. 2. 3. 11 & 12 @ 45/- - £9 - -'. Both carved sections on the bergere and table are applied panels cut into the solid mahogany leg.
